Default The Phantom Quest

First, a bit of background info: I'm a quest addict, and I prefer to complete every quest when possible. Especially when complete said quest results in my character learning a new skill.

So imagine my dismay when I reached Yak's Bend and the trainer there (who only teaches you skills from quests you missed in the Ascalon areas) had two skills to teach me: Phantom Pain (I'm Mesmer primary) and Hamstring (I'm Warrior secondary).

Pretty sure they're both learned from the same quest, but I can't figure out where the hell the quest is, just that it's supposed to be somewhere in the Ascalon areas (of which I've explored just about every square foot of, and done every quest I could get my hands on).

I even checked the eGuide, which, under sources, lists the trainer (duh) and "Quest (Ruins of Ascalon)". Wow, real helpful.

Still, at least that confirms the quest exists (and it makes sense, as again, the trainer in Yak's Bend only teaches skills you could have gotten from quests in the Ascalon areas). So does anyone know where to find it? Because I'm totally stumped.

I could be wrong, but dont some of the skill trainers also teach skills you can only learn by buying them? Not 100% sure on that.

Yeah, but a trainer either teaches you skills you could have learned in the last area through quests (like Captain Osric at Yak's Bend), or skills you can only learn from them (the trainer at Grendich Courthouse). Not both.

This isn't always the case. The further you get into the game, the more you're going to find that some skills can only be purchased from skill trainers. There are skills I've never bothered to purchase from the trainers. Most of them are beast mastery skills. I've done every quest from Ascalon to the Ring of Fire islands. I have no quests left in my quest log. I've visited every city and outpost in the game. Yet there are trainers willing to train these skills for the cost of a skill point.

You've probably hit the point where some of the skills can only be purchased. As I remember, when I hit Yak's Bend, there were a couple skills that I had to buy that didn't have quests associated with them on my R/Mo.

Like I said . . . there's trainers that teach you stuff you've missed, and trainers that teach you stuff you can only get from them.

As far as I can tell, Captain Osric at Yak's Bend is one that teaches you skills from quests in the Ascalon areas (not to mention the official guide says it's learnable from a quest). So . . . yeah.
